"ELITE EDITION"

The "Elite Edition" Bug Shirt is our most versatile - and most popular - style. It contains all the features of the "Original", in the same fabric and colour choices, plus these significant design enhancements:

We moved the zipper from the bottom edge of the face mesh to the top, and put two sliders on it. This way you can open it just a tiny bit (to look clearly through binoculars, take photos or eat!) without letting the biting insects get to you.  Because we used one zipper with two sliders, and not two zippers, that means you get to choose where the opening will be - maybe top dead centre (great for binoculars) or on one side so you can sneak a snack into your mouth before the bugs notice!

We added  an adjusting cord to the back of the hood, so you can effectively pull the hood back off your face if it falls too far forward and blocks your peripheral vision. This means we can accommodate all manner of neck lengths! By using both these  features together you can wear the shirt with your face exposed but the rest of you protected, as in the picture above - added versatility!

We added a ribbed cuff, and still kept the elastic cord adjusters at the wrist. This way you get added comfort and maximum effectiveness at keeping blackflies, no-see-ums and ticks out, and still keep blood flowing to your hands!

We put an additional patch pocket with a velcro closing flap on the front of the shirt.

We modified the shape of the sleeve to wrap your elbow more completely and prevent  mosquitoes from attacking at that tender spot.

We moved the location of the drawcord lock at the waist slightly to the left. This was as a result of comments  from users out in the wilderness who found the old location just too centred!

The "Original" style - first introduced to the public in 1991.   Provides good basic protection.

The fabric is lightweight and cool but very densely woven so that mosquitoes can't bite through it. It is available both in natural coloured ("N") 100% cotton (pictured here), and - 100% polyester breathable microfibre in sandstone ("S") or ivy green ("G"). (See the bottom of this page for colour samples.)

No-see-um mesh sleeves and sides allow cooling breezes in but keep biting insects out.

The face mesh provides excellent visibility.  All our bug shirts are made with no-see-um face mesh, to protect against even the tiniest no-see-ums and sand fleas.

The zippered hood can be easily thrown back, and fits over a baseball cap or hard hat.

Wrist closures seal the sleeves against biting insect intrusion.

A drawstring at the waist with bow cord lock provides a positive seal at the bottom edge.

The entire shirt folds into its own zippered pocket, and travels easily on a belt clip

The perfect complement to the Original Bug Shirt for those who need full body protection from mosquitoes, ticks and other biting insects.  This design stresses "light weight".

Like the Original Bug Shirt, our pants are designed to be effective. We have made sure that the critical ankle area is protected no matter what your level of activity. 

The Regular Bug Pants are available in polyester microfibre in sandstone or ivy green.  I don't have a picture to display at the moment, but see the zipper fly pants below, and ignore the zipper fly, cargo pockets, reinforced knees and belt loops, and there you have it!

These pants are deliberately cut long - when held up to your waist the ankle elastic should be touching the floor!  This is so that even when fully bending your knees, the lower edge of the pants will remain tucked into your shoes, and not ride up to expose your ankles to bites.

• The unique elasticated ankle and stirrup positively protect the vulnerable ankle area from biting insects.
• The waist is secured with both a drawstring and elastic.
• There are two pockets in the side seams.

We have simplified the design.  Because the fabric is light weight, we have kept these pants light by omitting the reinforced knees and cargo pockets (see the Zipper Fly Pants below).  They are still very durable - the nature of the fabric used ensures that - but the emphasis for this style is lightness.

"Zipper Fly" BUG PANTS

The Zipper Fly Bug Pants are available in polyester microfibre in sandstone (pictured here) or ivy green.  The current design uses a slightly heavier weight fabric than the one used for the bug shirts and regular pull on style pants.  This new fabric lends itself perfectly to the reinforced knees, and cargo pockets that are featured.

These pants are deliberately cut long - when held up to your waist the ankle elastic should be touching the floor!  This is so that even when fully bending your knees, the lower edge of the pants will remain tucked into your shoes, and not ride up to expose your ankles to bites.

• Constructed of 100% no-see-um mesh.

• It fits over baseball caps, hard hats, etc.

• The elastic cord passing under your arms, together with a cord lock, hold the Bug Hood firmly in place.

• It will provide protection for your face and neck, from all types of biting flies and mosquitoes.  But please don't confuse the degree of protection offered by the Bug Hood, with the exceptional protection offered by both the Original Bug Shirt styles.  Note, after all, the difference in price!

The measurements given in the charts below are your actual body measurements, not the dimensions of the bug shirts or pants (except for the bug shirts where I have also shown the actual measurement of the waistband just for those situations where you are in between sizes).  So where your body measurements fit in the range given for a size, that is the correct size for you. 

There is a little bit of shrinkage in the cotton (3%) in the sleeve length and the body length, but not around, so after a few washings you can expect to lose an inch or so in the overall length of both sleeve and body.

If your own measurements are between sizes in the charts make sure you give highest priority to hip and sleeve measurements for the shirts and waist and leg length for the pants.

Chest, waist or hips -

measure around fullest part. Where chest or hips are indicated in the chart, the hips are actually the most important measurement, since the shirt gets wider as it goes up and can accommodate a larger chest than hip size.

Sleeve length -

measure from centre of back of neck, over shoulder to wrist, with arm straight and hanging down. This is easiest if someone else measures you! And you really don't want to order a size smaller than your actual sleeve length, or you will just be giving the biters more of an opportunity to attack your wrists.

Inseam -

measure the inside leg seam (ankle to where the legs join) of your favourite pants.

 

This picture shows all three colours.  The Elite Edition shirt is in the Ivy Green microfibre.  The Bug Pants are in the Sandstone microfibre.  The Original Style Bug Shirt and the Gaiters are in the natural coloured cotton.  The pants worn with the gaiters are just regular pants and not ones we make!
